Srinagar district is situated in the centre of kashmir valley,is surrended by five districts.the capital city of srinagar is located 1730 meters above sea level.It comprises three tehsils/towns viz srinagar and kangan,four blocks(srinagar- north, srinagar-south,kangan and leh,besides 175 villages.the population desity in the district srinagar is 401 per square kilometer which is heighest in the state.
